About the owners

Mike and Cathy Scott own and manage Seniors Helping Seniors Solihull and Warwick.
Mike grew up by the coast in Lancashire and Cathy by the coast in Lincolnshire. They met in Nottingham while at university and have lived in the Midlands for 22 years. Their children are 10 and 7 years of age.
Mike is an avid sports fan and although testing his resolve at times, has followed Everton from an early age! Mike says football “is now a three-generation affair, going to matches with grandad and son.” Cathy enjoys running, swimming and she adores reading. Together, they enjoy spending time with their children, walks in the countryside, visits home to the coast and travelling when they can.
For the last 20 years Mike’s corporate energy supply career was about product development and managing teams. Cathy ‘s career has been customer-facing. Mike had the opportunity to take voluntary redundancy in 2021 and the couple took time out to really think about next steps and an important change in direction.
What inspired you most about Seniors Helping Seniors?
Mike says, “We looked long and hard at what we wanted from the next stage of our lives.”
Cathy says, “We knew how rewarding Care could be, on a personal level and in a business sense because Mike’s family ran a residential care home. We’ve been very close to the problems facing the industry; an ageing population leading to supply v demand issues, staffing problems and difficulties in providing the right care in the right way.”
“Seniors Helping Seniors stood out as a disrupter tackling the most important issues in Care. We feel honoured to be the first Seniors Helping Seniors in the Midlands.”
As Mike puts it, “One question we continually asked ourselves in our quest to find the right business was how it would feel when we looked back in older age and what we had achieved. We love the idea of being able to look back knowing that we and our team did their bit to make a difference to peoples’ lives”
How is Seniors Helping Seniors different from the other care services in Solihull and Warwick?
Cathy states, “In our search for the perfect business we came across countless home care providers, but it was Seniors Helping Seniors that really stood out. Seniors Helping Seniors helps solve two critical social issues for the price of one!” Elderly social care and well-paid employment for people with experience who want to work flexible hours doing work they love to do.
Mike continues, “We ensure both client and carer are at the heart of everything we do. The outcome of this unique approach is crystal clear:
- Flexible employment at a wage above the Real Living Wage, for amazing people who want to give back
- High quality care provided by like-minded life experienced people where interests and passions are matched to create a strong relationship
- A tailored approach to care – no minimum hours or restrictive contracts locking you into services
- Every visit designed to make a difference – our minimum visit is one hour as lasting relationships can’t be built in less
- Consistency – care provided by the same people on a regular basis, rather than just whoever is available at that time and in that area
This is not box ticking care, this is high-end tailored care that has such a positive impact for those involved. The glowing reviews that Seniors Helping Seniors receives are testament to that.”
Tell us about your Community activities:
Cathy says, “Having two school aged children, much of our community involvement centres around them.”
Cathy helps with school events and trips and Mike is a football coach for the local boys under 11’s team.
“We are now helping the community at the other end of the age spectrum.”
Tell us more ..
Mike’s parents ran an elderly care home for over 20 years, so while growing up, caring for other people has been constant. Cathy worked at the care home and reflected, “It has meant that we have seen first-hand what good care means to people and the difference it can make.”
“More recently, both sets of parents have come through health-related issues and during those periods we became acutely aware of the need for support both physically and mentally from a distance. The care we provide through Seniors Helping Seniors is the care we want for our own parents.”

"We have been using the services of Seniors Helping Seniors for over 4 years and have been really pleased with the care and attention the team have always given to Mum. Nothing has ever been too much trouble and the team have often gone above and beyond to ensure that Mum was comfortable in her own home for as long as possible.
They often shared lots of laughs and fun times as well as caring for her emotional and physical needs and it always left us reassured that she was in the best of hands.
They are a very flexible team and always willing to help out when additional support was required putting the needs of Mum first. A special thanks to Eileen and Simone who have been on the journey with Mum and become more than a companion to her, they have become good friends. A very caring exceptional company. "

"Our Mum is suffering from severe dementia and although we take on a lot of the care ourselves, we needed some extra help in the afternoons. The care from SHS has been outstanding. All the carers have been great with Mum, taking her for a drive, a cup of tea and a piece of cake when able which is her favourite thing to do.
We have received photo’s of Mum from the carers of Mum while she is out and she always looks so happy. She can’t wait to go with them! Teresa provided Mum with a photo book at Christmas – such a lovely thing to do and Mum treasures this. Tina has been great also - always there to help co-ordinate and offer support.
We really cannot fault the care received. We know Mum is in safe hands and Dad can have a rest while she is out. Highly recommended! Joanna, Karen and Nicola."
